MCD Supermarkets

The MCD formula exists for more than 40 years. MCD started when two comrades, Cornelis and Marius opened a discount store in Oosterhout. Marius, Cornelis & Discount was shortened to MCDiscount. They bought a potato barn and placed a tile floor and theorems in it. It was kind of a Cash & Carry approach, “many for less”, “take and go “.
The approach became a hit and the two opened an office in Roosendaal and later one in Hilvarenbeek. After some years the company was sold to the Boon Group, which had a store formula named Pagro. These stores were also converted to MCDiscount.

In the 80s-90s, the formula is qualitatively upgraded by professionalizing the verse departments and addition of assortiment. The formula, already not a discount formula, was renamed to MCD.

MCD is part of Boon Management, a wholesale company in food, which operates more than 100 years as an independent family business in the Dutch food market. MCD is connected with the purchasing organization Superunie. Superunie has become the largest purchasing agency for the Netherlands.
